Pre-Literate Learning Gamification - EDU Hackathon 2018 Silver Medalist
I wanted to tackle a problem I saw in my home with my daughter who had just started Kindergarten: How can I as a parent/caregiver know if my child is making progress with their work and is there a way to reduce the amount of paperwork my child brings home? In one week I worked with two engineers and built a functional prototype of this concept that won silver in our annual EDU Hackathon.
Equity in Education
I was very curious about how disparate the equity gap was between the different neighborhoods of Seattle. I downloaded multiple sets of data, cleaned up and added to the data-set to get a visual representation of the education equity gap in Seattle. This satisfied the requirements for my certificate in Data Visualization at the University of Washington where I graduated with a perfect grade.
Teacher Trends
Microsoft Teams has an education specific experience with an application to post, grade, and manage assignments for both teachers and students. I led a team to design what the student and teacher’s data ideal experience would be. Our initial exploratory dashboard will then lead to more explanatory notifications and actionable insights.
Class Notebook Analytics
One of our earliest education products was an add-in to OneNote which created a Class Notebook for students and teachers to read and write assignments. I designed an exploratory dashboard based on the metrics of words added, time spent, and active pages. We had regular customer calls with Class Notebook users around the world to collect and validate feedback.
School District Analytics
As part of our effort to build a GDPR and COPPA compliant data platform for school districts, I designed a PowerBI dasboard for school district leaders to monitor the performance of their school districts.
